I just released WP YouTube Lyte 1.6, featuring the following changes:
- allow WP YouTube Lyte to use YouTube API v3, which requires authentication (while keeping API v2 with anonymous access in place)
- updated player UI by Draikin, great job!
- support for non-default plugins dirs
- Added Slovenian translation by [Mitja Mihelič or arnes.si](http://arnes.si) and updated Dutch & French translations
Proof the new player UI looks great;
If you’re struggling to get a Google API key; there’s extensive information in the FAQ on the why, what & how. WP YouTube Lyte will automatically fall back to the old anonymous API v2 if you don’t provide a key. As API v2 will continue to work for a couple of more weeks, all will be fine. I am, in the mean time, working on a separate plugin that will automatically provide an API key for WP YouTube Lyte to use (and which in the future might offer other extra’s). You can contact me if you would be interested in test-driving that service-plugin.
Hey Frank,
I signed up for a public API key, looked to be working and a I saved the update. Then got this error:
WP YouTube Lyte got the following error back from the YouTube API: ipRefererBlocked (Fri, 03 Apr 2015 17:33:19 +0000)..
I’ve whitelisted three IPs for my server in the Google API. Any idea what could be up? You don’t need OAUTH right?
Thanks,
Eric
indeed oauth is not needed. did you use a server API key and not a browser one? i would try without any ip’s in the whitelist to begin with (which would enable the key for use anywhere). once you get that working, you can always try to change the ip-restrictions?
frank
I used a server key, it should be browser?
Thanks again,
Eric
No, should be server indeed. Try removing all ip-addresses from the whitelist?
Yes I removed all IPs, and looks to be working now! Thank you again for your plugin and fast support.
Eric
Issues establishing Server key and inconsistent error reporting:
Procedure:
new Server Key Created.
Authorization for my server IP added.
Test Key:
API key not OK, your key seems to be valid, but restricted to an IP-address which is not your server's.Try changing the allowed IP for your API key to include this one: 69.163.209.252
[odd because this IP is specifically allowed]
Removed IP Restriction
Test Key:
API key not OK, your key seems to be faulty, with YouTube API returning reason: accessNotConfigured
Generated New Key
Test Key:
API key not OK, your key seems to have expired, please check in the Google Developer Console.
[odd because I’m using the NEW not the obsolete key]
Any tips would be very welcome.
Evening Justin;
I’ve seen other indications there’s some sort of caching going on at Google. Make sure you have an active key without IP-restriction and wait 15 minutes or so, chances are it’ll work at that point.
frank
Hi Frank,
After our email conversation last night, decided to try Wp Youtube Lyte… Yet again this plugin is fantastic. Tested it. Worked really great…
Sorry, nothing I have tried is working. The whitelist is empty, I tried the IP suggested when the test failed, I have wandered through the impenetrable wasteland that is Google trying to resolve this with no luck. This is a waste of my time. I’ll be dropping the plugin until a better solution can be found. I’ll check back at some future point.
Hi frank!
Same issue: API key not OK, your key seems to be valid, but restricted to an IP-address which is not your server’s.Try changing the allowed IP for your API key to include this one: 5.101.152.66.
5.101.152.66 in allowed IPs.
remove any restriction and try again Dmitry (might take some time, there seems to be caching at YouTube’s).
frank
Thanks, frank! All seems good.

Checking your key …
API seems OK, you can Save Changes below now.

your information is useful. i want to ask Do you have to get an API for this plugin to work?
It can work without, but with some limitations (e.g. playlists will have no thumbnail, the video title will not be shown as not available, …).
Hi there!
wp-youtube-lyte/wp-youtube-lyte.phpon 323 line should be maxresdefault.jpg instead of hqdefault.jpg
also testing key shows me this:
Your API key might be OK, but the API call did not succeed or the response was not entirely expected. Technical error: accessNotConfigured
Tried creating new key and removed IP restrictions
maxresdefault.jpg isn’t always available, hence hqdefault. you can always change this using the lyte_match_thumburl filter if you want.
re. the YouTube API; no idea I’m afraid, it’s a black box for me as well :-/
