Although I feel time has not been kind to Laurent Garnier’s music (it sounds rather dated now, but it could just as well be me getting old), but I do love listening to his “It is what it is”-radioshow on Radio Meuh which he duefully also uploads to his SoundCloud-account. Garnier’s musical taste, which he displays in his radioshow, is that broad that every show there’s at least one song that I get all excited about. This time it’s a solo improvisation from Bill Evans from back in 1958, titled “Peace Piece”. So beautiful!
it is what it is
Music from Our Tube: shoegazing jazz-rocking wicked drummer
One of the many gems discovered while listening to random old “It is what it is”-shows; Mice Parade‘s “Pretending”;
Said Laurent;
Le batteur on as toujours l’impression que c’est le mec du Muppet show, on a l’impression qu’il a 42 mains avec 75 fus. Il joue comme un dingue, vous allez voir. Plus le morceau avance, plus qu’il joue.
Music from Our Tube; Souldancing on a Friday
While listening to random old “It is what it is”-shows (Merci Laurent) I heard this re-issue of Heiko Laux‘s Souldancer. No go have some fun you kids!
Music from Monsieur Garnier: Acid Mondays
I still have some old Gilles Petersons “WorldWide” and Laurent Garniers “It is what it is” shows on my computer and once in a while I still “discover” gems in them. Just now, while on the train, I was listening to “It is what it is” Saison Quatre, emmission 2 and heard “El Recorrido” from Acid Mondays. The tracks starts out with just a (very) fat groove, but gets really interesting as from 2:37.
Ain’t it funky now?
Music from Our Tube; Nathan Fake – Stops (bye Laurent)
“It is what is is”, Laurent Garnier’s weekly radioshow, stopped airing in December. His entire last episode featured songs about “the end”, including the Doors’ epic song at the very end.
But it was this electro-thingie by Nathan Fake that jazzed me up;
